When it comes to meeting challenges, our response is simple: We serve. It's something that unites Lions around the world. And it's unconditional. Lions aren't limited by continents or restricted to certain causes. We help wherever, whenever and however we can.

Whenever a Lions club gets together, problems get smaller. And communities get better. That's because we help where help is needed – in our own communities and around the world – with unmatched integrity and energy.

In 206 countries, in hospitals and senior centers, in regions battered by natural disaster, in schools and eyeglass recycling centers, Lions are doing community volunteer work, helping, leading, planning and supporting. Because we're local, we can serve the unique needs of the communities we live in. And because we're global, we can address challenges that go beyond borders.

Our 46,000 clubs and 1.35 million members make us the world's largest service club organization. We're also one of the most effective. We get the job done.
Believe in what I preach

In District 324E4, we pursue a clear guiding principle to bring about changes. A change in our way of life and our environment. Because, we all know that the quality of our life and of fellow-beings depends on many issues, often unrelated; yet irrational on many counts. We need to act differently and cohesively, in setting trends for raising our hopes in life. Currently, we are a fraternity of about 3200 devoted members actively taking part in various service programs planned for the year 2011-12 under the leadership of our Distrct Governor Dr T A Varkey.

Our action theme for the year is Focus on Future with unswerving emphasis on nature and human resource development.

Fervently, we appeal to all of you  be a part of this endeavor in realizing our social commitments and strengthening our efforts and perhaps,  in bringing up a better future that many of us would like to envision today.

District Governor
Governor's Message...
La

Dear Lion Friends,

Let me express my gratitude for the confidence reposed by electing me as the District Governor for 2011-12. I solicit your continued support for the smooth conduct of our service activities through fellowship. My slogan for the year is Focus on Future.

When thinking of the future, we have to think of our children, as Children are one third of our population and all of our future. We should concentrate on their physical and emotional strength; we need to tackle vision problems and deformities, we need to provide them clean environment, safe drinking water, also we have support them with opportunities for developing their full potential.

As our lifestyles become more developed by the day, so does the damage we do to the environment. Our every move, from watching television, to working at a computer, or driving a car harms the environment in one way or the other. Air and water pollution levels are increasing world over by the day. More than 700,000 children under five die from diarrhoea in India alone. We have to focus on environmental protection initiatives in a major way with activities including tree plantation, water harvesting, solid waste management, energy conservation, alternate energies etc.

Apart from these, we will have to continue with our on-going service activities such as blindness control and prevention, heart care, support to kidney patients, hearing and speech impairment, blood donation camps etc.

The new website will enable and equip you with more access and freedom to filing appeals for credits, managing club and members profiles, uploading photographs of various service activities and social functions in a more decentralized way. We request you to go through the same and utilise its features for your various activities.

Let us work together to make year ahead successful through our collective effort by taking service initiatives that will have an impact on the long term future of humanity and accomplish the I Believe Theme of the incoming International President Lion Dr. W K Tam.

With Lionistic regards

Events in Oct/Nov 2011...

My dear brothers and sisters in lionism,

First let me thank all the Lions, Lionesses and Leos for the co-operation and support extended for enabling the District administration to complete an excellent first quarter filled with activities.

We started the month of October by observing “Gandhi Jayanthi”. Many Clubs in our District befittingly observed this by providing breakfast, lunch, etc. for the elderly. Our District Governor commenced the activities of the second quarter on Gandhi Jayanthi day by cleaning the premises of Kaloor International Stadium. Lions Club members in and around Kochi joined the District Governor on this hand on service initiative - “Go Green Go Clean”. The District’s “Go Green Go Clean” programme will continue in the coming months as well.

For the first time in the history of our District, a District Cabinet meeting was held outside India in Kuala Lumpur. 86 members attended the cabinet meeting cum district family tour which was enjoyed by all the participants. After we got back to India we observed a colorful White Cane Safety Day in association with Kerala Federation of the Blind. The event that was coordinated by Lions Club of Ernakulam started with a colourful rally which was flagged off by Sri Hibi Eden MLA. White canes were distributed to the needy at the meeting. Scholarships for blind students were also distributed to those who excelled in academic pursuits. More than 200 blind people and 150 Lions participated in that event. Lion Justice J B Koshy was the Guest of Honour of the meeting in connection with the programme. The programme concluded with lunch for the all the participants including lions. I would like to express the gratitude of the District Administration to all those who sponsored different expenses in connection with the same.

Another colorful event that was conducted in October was the UN Day celebration. Our energetic Region Chairpersons organized the function in a splendid manner. Sri K T Jose, IAS, Chairman, Coconut Development Board was the Guest of Honor for the function. Almost all the Clubs in our District conducted Peace Poster Contest on a single day on 25th October which can be considered as a path breaking event and to my knowledge a new history in our District. Three winners at this level of the contest will be called up to take part in the District level contest that will be conducted on 13th November 2011 at St Teresa’s School Auditorium, Ernakulam.

Commencing September 2011 the district reporting system has changed over to online. The Clubs can now report their monthly activities and claim contest points through our District website www.dist324e4.org. If the clubs find any difficulty on this please revert to me.

Wish all the readers a Happy Diwali and pray that the light of Diwali spread into your life Peace, Prosperity, Happiness and Good Health.
